Cincinnati security guide: occupancy, FARU, leftover keypads, Duke Energy nights
The quote starts with house vs condo vs rental vs larger lot — not the look of the brick. Then we name the desk from your ZIP and ADT monitors 24/7.
How you live in the house. Not the look of the brick.
Cincinnati mixes single-family streets in Hyde Park and Oakley, stacked units Downtown and in Over-the-Rhine, hillside walkouts in Mount Adams, larger lots in Indian Hill and Mason, and resales with a leftover keypad. That mix is a living fact, not the product. The product is a professionally installed, ADT-monitored home security system. On the call we ask house vs condo vs apartment, ZIP, leftover keypad yes/no, and cameras yes/no.
A Hyde Park or Oakley house is doors, a walkout, and often a garage walk-through. A Downtown condo is indoor contacts the board will actually allow. A rental near UC adds extra keys — promotional offers are for homeowners. A Mason or West Chester lot is a longer driveway and weaker Wi-Fi at the back fence. We will not copy one kit onto the other. Packages start at $49.99/mo*.
The kit after you name how you live
Single-family house
Hyde Park, Oakley, Mount Lookout, Clifton. Front door, walkout, garage walk-through first. Doorbell if packages sit on the porch. Skip the twelve-camera list on a modest lot.
Condo
Downtown, Over-the-Rhine, Mount Adams stacked units. Boards often kill hallway cameras. A panel and contacts inside the unit plus ADT 24/7 is still a complete system. Staffed desks help with boxes. They do not call ADT at 2 a.m.
Apartment / rental
Ask who can authorize the install. Indoor contacts still work. Outdoor video is often a no. Houses near UC add extra keys — say who can disarm the panel. Promotional offers are for homeowners.
Larger-lot house
Indian Hill, Mason, West Chester, Anderson Township. Decks, walkouts, long driveways. Weak Wi-Fi at the back of the lot is normal — cellular backup by name. A different city desk is a permit conversation, not a reason to skip monitoring.
Hillside walkout / extra unit
Lower-level walkout, in-law suite, or garage apartment — common on Mount Adams, Columbia-Tusculum, and Indian Hill lots. That is a second door list, not a footnote. Say who keeps a key. One ADT watch can cover both if we count the openings.
Leftover keypad
Mason, West Chester, Blue Ash closes. Photograph the panel before you pull it. Reactivation is often faster than a rip-out. Builder leftover keypads are not ADT. Count the walkout and the garage walk-through.
FARU still wants registration. We do not invent an annual permit fee.
Inside the City of Cincinnati, Chapter 807 covers FARU registration and false alarms. Registration is still required. The city ceased collecting the old biennial user-registration fee on March 15, 2022 — we do not invent a current annual permit dollar amount. Registered false alarms: first two in 365 days $0, third $50 (a class may waive that one), then $75 / $100 / $150 / $200 / $300 / $400 / $500 / $800. Unregistered: $100 plus $800 per false alarm. New installs get a 30-day grace. FARU: (513) 352-1272. Unincorporated Hamilton County and many townships follow Ohio Revised Code 505.511 after three false alarms: $50 / $100 / $150. Anderson Township waives the fourth and fifth, then $150. Independent Ohio cities and Northern Kentucky: we name the office from your ZIP and do not invent their fees.
A leftover keypad on a resale is worth a photograph before you pull it. Reactivation is often faster than a rip-out. Say whether a walkout or garage apartment has its own key — that is a second door list, not a footnote.
What to have ready before you call
- ZIP and city — Mason is not Cincinnati Police, Covington is not FARU
- House, condo, apartment/rental, larger-lot, extra unit, leftover keypad — occupancy, not a style name
- Whether you own the home (promotional offers are for homeowners)
- A rough door and window count, including the garage and the hillside walkout
- Cameras yes or no, plus any HOA or board camera rules
- A photo of any leftover keypad
Call (513) 960-6003. You hear the monthly price, the $99 install, the 36-month agreement, and the permit office before anyone schedules a truck.
