Homicides are down 25% citywide. Porch boxes and empty hillside houses did not take the year off.
Interim Chief Adam Hennie told FOX19 on September 9, 2026 that homicides were down 25% year to date. That is progress. It is not a reason to leave the walkout unlocked on a Tuesday in Hyde Park while you sit downtown.
What Interim Chief Adam Hennie told FOX19 on September 9, 2026
Citywide, homicides were down 25% year to date — 39 versus 52 at the same point last year. Robberies were down nearly 20%. Directed walking patrols were up 250%. Those are citywide Cincinnati Police figures. They mix Over-the-Rhine, Westwood, Hyde Park, and the basin. A quieter street is not 24/7 monitoring. A neighbor on the porch is not an ADT operator. We do not invent neighborhood crime rates or FBI year totals we do not have.
The same briefing noted strangulations and aggravated assaults were up. Direction on homicides and robberies is real. Property crime here is still porch packages, break-ins, and houses that sit empty after drop-off. That is an occupancy problem. Monitoring is the product.
Porch packages on Hyde Park, Oakley, and Over-the-Rhine stoops
Walkable strips are why people add a doorbell. Hyde Park Square, Oakley, and Over-the-Rhine collect Amazon boxes on stoops while owners are at work, on I-71, or downtown for a Reds night. A camera you check yourself is useful. It is not the same as ADT calling you when a door opens.
Cincinnati homeowners can trust a SafeStreets security system monitored by ADT. The system is for the hours no one is looking out the window — not a claim that Hyde Park Square is dangerous.
School-day empties, not scare copy
Cincinnati Public Schools drop-off empties in-city two-stories. Indian Hill, Madeira, Wyoming, Mariemont, Sycamore, Mason, Forest Hills, Oak Hills, and Lakota in West Chester empty the suburbs until pickup. A Bengals Sunday empties Price Hill and Mount Adams walkouts. Those are occupancy problems. Monitoring is the product.
What people actually order after a missing package or a leftover keypad
Door and window sensors, including the garage and the hillside walkout. A doorbell camera if packages sit out front. Outdoor cameras if the driveway holds a car overnight. Cellular backup so the panel still reaches ADT when Duke Energy Ohio or Duke Energy Kentucky drops. That is the Cincinnati order, not a twelve-camera quote unless you ask for one.

Is Cincinnati “safe enough” to skip monitoring?
Homicides and robberies were down in that 2026 briefing. Porch theft and empty houses did not take the year off. Monitoring is for the hours you commute, sit at Great American Ball Park, or leave for school drop-off — not a verdict on your ZIP.
Do quieter streets like Hyde Park still order ADT?
Yes. Hyde Park, Oakley, Indian Hill, and Mason orders are usually school-day empties, leftover builder keypads, and packages on the stoop. Same ADT watch as Over-the-Rhine. Independent cities and Northern Kentucky are not Cincinnati Police. We name the desk from the ZIP.
Will Cincinnati Police come if the alarm trips?
ADT can request help based on the alert type. Inside the City of Cincinnati that is typically Cincinnati Police. Unincorporated townships, independent Ohio cities, and Northern Kentucky dispatch differently. Confirm the desk from your ZIP. City addresses still register with FARU under Chapter 807 — we name the office on the call and do not invent a current annual permit fee.
